Our 2002 design project
was an ice hockey table completed for the Cal Poly Open House. The concept was
similar to air hockey but instead of the puck floating on a layer of air, it
slid on a layer of ice. The project was a complete success! We froze a smooth
piece of ice the night before and played hockey the whole next day.The
ice hockey table consisted of a 3 X 6 ft wooden table ruggedly built out of
2x10, 4x4, 2x4, and 3/4 plywood. At the heart of the table was 3/4-ton Total
Line condensing unit. This unit pumped R404 into the evaporator coils we constructed.
See some ice hockey pictures in the Photo
Gallery. The Air Conditioning Club would like to thank
all the members that helped with the project (especially Sean Indman for brazing
the pipes), Dr. Maddren for the load calculations, and Joe Chin for his last-minute
help.If you're interested in working on future projects,
come to a meeting to find out more (Schedule).
